Downloading All Receipts from bexio: the Most-Requested Feature That Never Shipped
For eight years, bexio users asked for a ZIP download of all receipts per financial year — 277 votes, never built, the ideas portal discontinued in 2022. How to get the complete year today: automatically, in your own Google Drive.

Can you download all receipts of a financial year from bexio at once? No — to this day, bexio offers no ZIP download of all receipts and journals per financial year. That exact feature was one of the most-requested entries in the official bexio ideas portal, with 277 votes — submitted in 2018, answered in 2020 with “we will continue to pursue the topic”, never built; the ideas portal itself was discontinued in 2022. What the community asked for in vain for eight years does exist today — just not as a button in bexio: quintio mirrors all bexio documents, including the inbox, continuously into your own Google Drive. On 31 December the year is already complete, organised and shareable — without you downloading a single receipt by hand.
277 companies asked for a button that never existed
In April 2018, a bexio customer wrote in the official ideas portal:
“It would be great to be able to download all receipts and journals for the financial year as a ZIP file or similar at the end of the year. That way we could ensure the 10-year retention obligation without keeping a second complete filing system alongside bexio.” — bexio ideas portal, April 2018
The idea struck a nerve: in the archived snapshots of the portal it grew from 94 to 277 votes between 2019 and 2022 and collected 38 comments — across all Swiss national languages. The official reply from bexio came in February 2020 and remained the only one:
“We see the value of such a feature and will continue to pursue the topic.” — Official bexio reply in the ideas portal, February 2020
After that: status “Future consideration” until the end. In 2022, bexio discontinued the ideas portal — the votes are gone, the feature never came. The figures and quotes come from archived captures of the publicly accessible portal (2019 to 2022). And the receipts download was no isolated case: what else sat at the top of the bexio wishlist — and what exists for it today, from the city autofill (511 votes) to electronic VAT submission (361 votes).
Why this request is not a nice-to-have
The 38 comments read like a catalogue of the real risks — four of them come up again and again:
1. The 10-year retention obligation. You must retain books of account and accounting records for 10 years (Art. 958f CO) — all periods in detail. The document storage in bexio, however, is tied to your active subscription. One commenter put it plainly back in 2019:
“The document storage in bexio is not a backup — if the business is dissolved or no longer works with bexio, the receipts are no longer accessible either. So the 10 years become difficult.” — Comment in the bexio ideas portal, May 2019
bexio itself recommends in its own help centre (article 000001647): “We generally recommend keeping receipts additionally outside of bexio.”
2. Company closed — receipts gone. The hardest case from the comments:
“I closed my company and opened a new LLC … now I have to download every single receipt.” — Comment in the bexio ideas portal, December 2020
After cancellation the clock is also ticking: bexio deletes the data one month after the contract ends (bexio GTC clause 5.7) — what that means if you switch.
3. A tax audit wants everything, not single files.

4. Receipts should be named after the booking. Several comments ask for file
names with a booking reference (document number, account, date) — because that
is exactly how the tax administration asks. A loose folder full of
scan_0421.pdf helps little in an audit; a clean yearly filing
structure does.

The difference is less about price than about timing: the first two options are one-off actions — you must remember them at year-end, and everything new between two exports is unsecured. A mirror reverses the logic: every receipt lands continuously as a second copy in your own folder. The year-end closing turns from a collection project into a glance at a folder that is already complete.
Year-end closing when the year is already there
